Nasscom estimattes the animation sector grew at a rate of over 20 percent last year. "Demand for animation production services from India is growing with the emergenceof an organized animation production sector, with state-of-the-art of work required for international TV Program production, at substantially lower costs."

Pixel Inc and Arthur Andersen (Study om the Entertainment and Media sector) foreccast that the global animation market would generate revenues worth $50-70 billion this year.

Indian Companies are creating their own animated films based on charachters in Indian folkore and mythological. These films are not just for the Indian audience. indian mythological charachters are designed to impact a universal appeal. And there is a good foreign audience for these animated films. Many aniamtion studios are targeting the global market by developing proprietary properties, often based on Indian stories.

In the one hand foreign animation studios are spreading setting up shops in India; and on the otherm pure-play Indian films are getting international assignements. The animation industry is still in its nascent stage. It has great potential and India is cashing in on it these days.
